Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, Sept 12, 2015

"ভবিষ্যতের লক্ষ আশা মোদের মাঝে সন্তরে,

ঘুমিয়ে আছে শিশুর পিতা সব শিশুরই অন্তরে।"

Dear community members –

It’s been one year since we started our journey. This movement was initiated from a Town Hall Meeting held on August 22, 2014 at the Heritage Village Community Room. By now, with the support of all of you, we organized three enormously successful events – the Bangladesh Cultural Event (January 17, 2015), বর্ষবরণ ১৪২২ (May 2, 2015), and বনভোজন ২০১৫ (June 13, 2015). Beyond these events, we did some other social works for our community in time of needs. In addition, we have formulated some community projects on our children’s education and Bangladeshi culture.  However, in absence of a representative platform we find it difficult to implement those noble projects. Given the prevailing situation, we came up with some ideas and all those ideas are encircled around the philosophy that the people are the source of all power. In order to continue our endeavor, we would like to unite the community under a representative umbrella which would be of the community, by the community, for the community.

Please join our Community Discussions event. Here are the details of the event –

Venue: Lynnwood Reformed Church, 3714 Carman Rd, Schenectady, NY 12303

Date: Saturday, September 12, 2015

Schedule:

Appetizers: 6:30 PM – 7:00 PM

Discussions: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Dinner: 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM

We look forward to hear from you. Your opinion, criticism, suggestions, and support would help us to build a vibrant, pluralistic, and democratic society for ourselves and most importantly, for our future generations.

Regards,

Organizers

Community Discussions Event

Town Hall Meeting on August 22, 2014

On the 22nd August 2014, the Organization of Bangladeshi American Community, Inc (hereinafter OBAC) hosted a town hall meeting at Heritage Village Community Room to discuss a proposal from a community member on establishing a community center for the Bangladeshi American community  in the greater capital district (hereinafter the community). Most of the speakers welcomed the idea of establishing a community center. In the meeting, some speakers were skeptical and wanted further details. Most of speakers pointed out that it would not be sustainable unless the entire community gets involved. They emphasized the need to reform OBAC to make it an organization of the community for the community and by the community. After much discussions a committee (hereinafter the committee) was formed to perform the feasibility review of the community center and to make recommendations on OBAC’s organizational restructuring/reform. At the end of the meeting, the prime moderator announced the name of the committee members in front of the public.
Subsequent to the town hall meeting, OBAC called a meeting with the committee and discussed further details of the proposed community center and OBAC’s reorganization. OBAC requested the committee members to send their recommendations.
Prior to start work on the assignment, the some committee members jointly sent an email to OBAC and other committee members listing the names of the members for its accuracy and completeness. No response was received within the stipulated time frame indicating OBAC’s as well as the committee members’ concurrence on the list.
